Christmas gives us an opportunity to pause and reflect on the important things around us, to ask ourselves what we are thankful for and to make new memories.

So, what has been important within the community of Bannockburn High School in 2022, a year which has been influenced by the tenderness of the recent past, courage for the present, and hope for the future?

Generosity of spirit, pride and community are the words which come to my mind when I think back on this past year.

Generosity of spirit: because we have so many people working with and within our school who care deeply about our young people and go above and beyond to support them and their families. So many people who are dedicated to our young people and believe in and work tirelessly to realise our shared vision of shaping the brightest future for all.

Pride: because we are immensely proud of our young people and their achievements. Those achievements that we can share and celebrate publicly but also those more private small steps forward which mean every bit as much and take just as much effort and determination.

Community: because we are one team. We cannot work in insolation – we are stronger, wiser, and able to achieve much more when we work together. Staff collaboration, pupil voice, parents as partners and wider partners who serve our community being based within our school, all serve as examples of how we work together to improve outcomes for our young people.

In the words of Dr Seuss:

“Christmas will always be as long as we stand heart to heart and hand in hand.”

With deepest gratitude for your contribution to our school this year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all our young people and their families, partners, and friends of our school, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Have a wonderful, restful break when it comes.

Mrs K Hook

Dear Parent,                                  click here for classes    PSHE Teachers – Session 2020-21

We are very much looking forward to welcoming our young people from all year groups back to school on Monday 17 August.

So that we can conduct Health and Safety briefings with all our young people, they should go directly to PSHE period 1 and 2 on Monday. This will also give them the opportunity to talk through the new arrangements and ask any questions that they may have. The classrooms and teachers are attached to this email so that our young people know where to go. This information has also been shared on the year group Google Classrooms with our young people.

Thank you again for your support and patience throughout these challenging times.

Kind regards,

Karen Hook

24 June 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

On Tuesday (23 June), the Deputy First Minister announced to the Scottish Parliament that the Scottish Government is now aiming for the full return of children and young people to schools in August, subject to ongoing COVID-19 scientific and health advice.
Following our letter to you dated 9 June, you will be aware that teachers, early years practitioners and other staff have been returning to schools and other early learning and childcare settings in small groups since the start of the month, to plan and prepare for the re-opening of schools and nurseries in compliance with current Scottish Government guidance.
While we are now working towards a return to full-time schooling, we have also put in place, as required by the Scottish Government, contingency plans for a blended learning model, with pupils attending school and nursery on some days and learning at home on others.
We hope these plans do not need to be put into practice, but it is important you are aware of these arrangements and know we are prepared for all eventualities in these uncertain times. Individual schools and nurseries will provide you with more specific details this week and in the weeks ahead.
We can now confirm that we are planning for schools to re-open for pupils on Wednesday 12 August, with the preceding two days (10 and 11 August) allocated as in-service days for staff.
As we come towards the end of the academic session, we want to recognise the wonderful achievements and commitment to learning of Stirling’s children and young people during this period. As we emerge from this difficult period, we are looking forward to welcoming all children and young people back to our schools and nurseries, ensuring they continue to receive the highest quality of care and learning.
We are fully aware this has been a tough and uncertain time for families throughout the Stirling Council area and we thank you again, as parents and carers, for your incredible support, understanding and resilience.
We also want to recognise the massive efforts and commitment of our teams in schools and nurseries, as well as our central teams, who have worked tirelessly during this period of time to ensure that our children and young people have been offered a range of learning experiences, as well as preparing our schools and nurseries for return in August.
This remains a fast-moving and challenging situation and the Council, along with our schools and nurseries, recognise the importance of keeping you regularly updated.
To keep track of the latest updates, and for support services and helpline numbers, please use our dedicated education, children and families resource on the Stirling Council website: www.stirling.gov.uk/learning-education/coronavirus-education-updates

Kevin Kelman Chief Operating Officer (People) & Chief Education Officer

Dear Parent

Stirling Council has now produced guidance for pupils and parents in relation to Google Meet. This is part of the G- Suite for Education and will enable pupils to take part in recorded video conferencing lessons with teachers.

Pupils under the age of 12

In order for Google Meets to take place for a pupil under the age of 12, a parent must complete a consent form. Please click here.

Pupils age 12 and over

In order for Google Meets to take place for a pupil age 12 and over, the pupil must complete the consent form. We have posted this information on the year group Google classrooms but we wanted to share it with parents too so that you can remind your child to complete it. The form is the same and can be found here for your child to complete.

Please find attached the guidance for parents and pupils.

It is anticipated that the Google Meet function will be used by teachers as part of a range of approaches to support online learning. Some teachers may trial Google Meet in June with a view to it being more widely used in August.

Kind regards

Mrs Hook
