Learners have 3 periods of Science per week. During this time, we aim to provide pupils with wide variety of practical work, skills and other learning experiences that will engage and inspire them to think about Science in everyday contexts. Each topics provides pupils with a basic understanding of each of the sciences and the principles of scientific method. We discuss the applications of science and how their learning translates into the world of work and pupils are provided with opportunities to research topical science and present information as well as work as part of a team and independently.

In S1, young people cover the following topics:

  • The Living Body
  • Materials
  • Energy and Forces

In S2, young people cover the following topics:

S2 pupils will make their course choices and may select one or two sciences for continuing into S3. We also have the option of Applied Sciences which gives our learners the opportunity to take a more practical approach to their studies and we look at aspects of all three sciences.
