Update from BHS for S4-S6 – Thursday 19 March 6.00 pm

March 19, 2020

Dear Parent of S4-S6 Learners,

I know this continues to be an uncertain time and decisions made today are having a significant impact on our young people, parents and teachers.

I have included below for your information, a link to the statement from SQA following the announcement that SQA exams are to be cancelled this year.

https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/93598.html

Although the announcement did not come as a surprise, many of our pupils were visibly upset this afternoon by the implications of this.

We will continue to do absolutely everything we can to ensure that our young people are not disadvantaged by the decision to cancel the SQA examinations.

Over the coming hours I will be involved in a number of discussions which will hopefully provide some clarity around what we need to do and what we can do, to ensure that our young people are accredited with the appropriate qualifications in August 2020. It is very possible that secondary schools around Scotland will remain open next week to Senior Phase students and staff, in order to support this. I will provide more information on this as soon as I can.

At this time of uncertainty, please reassure your son/daughter and have confidence in the school, that we will navigate through this, so that our pupils gain appropriate recognition for their efforts throughout this year and so they are not disadvantaged by this decision.

Kind regards,

Karen Hook
